Who doesn’t love reheating leftovers for a quick snack or dinner meal?

I get it, when time’s rushed, you’re exhausted AND DIDN’T PREPARE IN ADVANCE and JUST don’t want to cook, leftovers are perfect! They are also a way better alternative than fast food. But caution- if you’re about to stick those in the microwave- think again! The stove might be a better reheating option.

We’ve all used or at least heard the term- “Oh I’ll just nuke it in the microwave really quick.” Wait! What? Did you pick up on that- NUKE IT. Every time you use the microwave you zap essential nutrients out of the tasty fresh meals you cooked prior! Now this isn’t meant to scare you but simply educate you and encourage you to use the microwave less or maybe not all. These are the 5 top reasons not to use your microwave.

  1. The human body cannot metabolize [break down] the unknown by-products created in micro-waved food.
  2. Male & female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by continually eating micro-waved foods.
  3. The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in a microwave oven.
  4. The prolonged eating of micro-waved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood
  5. Eating micro-waved food causes: loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability and intelligence.

Parents beware: microwaving baby formulas converts certain amino-acids into their toxic form, which is poisonous to the nervous system and kidneys of a developing child.

Transformation doesn’t just come with eating better and working out. It stems from your habits. You can help prolong your health and eliminate risks that are caused by eating microwaved food by simply making a pact with yourself to not use the microwave altogether.

Also, with using the microwave there comes a whole lot of other issues associated with the storage containers used to heat food in. If you are to use a microwave avoid plastic containers at all costs. Studies show that plastic molecules and chemicals leech into food, which can cause cancer. Ceramic and glass containers are the safest and healthiest options.

Using alternatives to the microwaves and microwave foods lacking nutritional value is highly recommended. Other methods including the oven, stove top or toaster oven ensures that food is reheated safely, cooked evenly, and nutrients in the food are preserved. If you’ve been following the nutrition plan, recommended by your coach, which usually includes a lot of raw veggies and fruits, then there really shouldn’t be much need for your microwave now…right?

Enjoy a variety of delicious time-savers with a little advance preparations for those days when you just don’t want to think about spending time cooking up food. Have a strategy in place that will free up your time and keep you from eating garbage when you are on the go during the day or feeling exhausted at the end.

Sometimes you just have to call it like it is…

If I hear one more person use the excuse, but the package said it was only… I may lose my sanity. Basically, food manufacturers market their junk food (disguised as health food), by labeling the package with brilliant marketing to catch you when you are vulnerable, haven’t eaten enough good stuff for the day. I think they expect us all to stand up and shout, “Wow, now I can eat mini muffins, pretzels, bagel crisps, sugar coated almonds, and other processed junk since it’s only 100 calories!” The sad part is food marketers have fooled many people into believing it’s okay to eat what I call 100-Calorie Crap Packs, since it’s just a small portion size… The truth is that these small portions still contain over 20 grams of highly processed starches that raise inflammation in your body while decreasing your health and blunting your weight loss efforts.

Did you know this processed flour actually strips your body of vital minerals needed for every cellular energy function in your body? Do you really want to sacrifice your health & fat loss efforts by eating snacks that come from genetically modified corn or wheat based products? And do you want your family eating that “crap” either? The big takeaway today is that just because it’s only 100 calories doesn’t make it good for you… or even okay to eat at all. And, just because sneaky food manufacturers remove the fat so they can call it “low fat” doesn’t make it good for you either since they’re just trading fat for inflammatory, high-glycemic carbohydrates. Yummy.

Just say NO! It’s a safe and healthy philosophy to live by.
